Elizabethtown is the county seat of Bladen County, North Carolina. The site of the settlement was a 100-acre tract belonging to Isaac Jones, who was operating a tan yard, bark house, and a ferry there. Originally known as Elizabeth Town, the community was the site of a bitter struggle during the American Revolution, which drove the Tories from the area, securing it for the Whigs. A post office was established as Elizabethtown in 1796.
