Enfield, North Carolina is the oldest town in Halifax County. The community was settled prior to 1725, although the town was not founded until 1740. Before the establishment of Halifax County, Enfield was the county seat of Edgecombe County, remaining the seat of that county until 1758, then continuing as the temporary seat of Halifax County until a court building was built in Halifax. Enfield is southeast of Brinkleyville and northwest of Scotland Neck.
