In the 1850s, Henry Robinson build a log tavern at the location of what was to become the city of Hickory Tavern in 1863, which was later shortened to Hickory. The Catawba County city is home to one of the oldest furniture manufacturers in the United States, Hickory White, formerly known as Hickory Manufacturing Company.
