The oldest town in Yadkin County, Jonesville was first incorporated as Martinsborough in 1811, later changed in honor of Hardy Jones, who fought in the Revolutionary War and lived in the town. The town's charter lapsed during the Civil War, and was reactivated in 1873. It lapsed again in the 1890s, to be renewed in 1901.
