Situated in Brunswick County, in southeastern North Carolina, Leland is just across the Cape Fear and Brunswick rivers, west of Wilmington. Settled for the purposes of the railroad in the late 1890s, Leland was not officially incorporated as a town until 1989. In the 2000s, the town has annexed several nearby developments, including Brunswick Forest, Magnolia Greens, Waterford, Mallory Creek, Westport, and Westgate.
