Situated in the northeast central region of North Carolina, where the North American Piedmont and Atlantic Coastal Plain regions meet, just north of Raleigh, Wake Forest is part of Wake County. Development of the area began in 1820, in a forested area known as Wake Forest, from which the town gets its name.
