Wrightsville Beach is located on a four-mile long island, east of Wilmington, in New Hanover County, North Carolina, and includes an interior island known as Harbor Island. The community began as the Carolina Yacht Club in 1853. A rail line was constructed in 1888, leading from the mainland to Harbor Island, and to the exterior island along the beach, which encouraged development. Wrightsville Beach is south of Figure Eight Island, with Mason Inlet separating the two.
