Situated across the Missouri River from Bismarck, Mandan is in Morton County, North Dakota, and serves as the county seat. The community was founded in 1881 as a center for the western expansion of the railroad. By 1883, a railroad bridge crossing the Missouri linked the east and the west part of the country. Today, Mandan is the sixth largest community in North Dakota.
