Founded in 1946 and incorporated as a village in 1948, Pick City was named for Lewis A. Pick, director of the Missouri River office of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Pick City overlooks the Garrison Dam in Mercer County, North Dakota. The city was established during the construction of the dam.
