Tolna is in Nelson County, North Dakota. The community was established along the Great Northern Railroad in 1906, getting its name as a derivative of the last name of David Newton Tallman, who developed town sites along the rail line, and its first streets (Helen, Esther, Gertrude, Margaret and Marjorie) were named for his daughters. The first baby born in Tolna was named Lillian Tolna Heald. Along the railroad, Tolna is between Warwick and Pekin. Stump Lake is just north of the city.
