Before white settlers came to the area, the territory was populated by the Miamis and the Shawnees. Early white settlers included John W. Carey, Josiah Greene and John Munch, and the village was laid out by Carey in 1858. First named Carey’s Station, the settlement was renamed Anna in honor of Carey’s daughter. Incorporated in 1877, Anna, Ohio is in The Shelby County.
