Aurora is a city in Portage County, Ohio. The city was formed from the former township of Aurora, which was itself formed from the Connecticut Western Reserve. Its earliest documented settler was Ebenezer Sheldon, who built a cabin on East Pioneer Trail near the Mantua Township line in 1799. In 1810, a post office was established in Aurora, and the community was incorporated as a village in 1929. In 1971, Aurora became a city.
