The city of Defiance, in the northwestern region of Ohio, is in Defiance County. It is named after Fort Defiance, which was built by the “Mad General” Anthony Wayne at the confluence of the Maumee and Auglaize Rivers. The site of the old fort is marked today by the placement of two cannons outside the city library.
