Hilliard, Ohio is a city in Franklin County. The community was named for John Reed Hilliard, who bought ten acres of farmland between Big Darby Creek and the Scioto River. Originally known as Hilliard’s Station, the town grew around a railroad route, serving as a shipping point for agricultural products going to market. The word “Station” was dropped from its name when a post office was established in 1854, and it was incorporated as a village in 1869, becoming a city in 1960.
