Formerly known as Grand, the town of Arnett is the seat of Ellis County, Oklahoma. The town was established at the junction of local trading routes. Its post office opened in 1902, and said to have been named for A.S. Arnett, the Fayetteville, West Virginia minister of the town's first postmaster.
