Located on the western edge of Caddo County, Carnegie was first known as Lathram. Shortly after the town incorporated in 1903, its leaders voted to change the town's name to Carnegie in the hopes that Andrew Carnegie, a famous philanthropist, would build them a library. That never happened, but the name stuck.
