Situated at the intersection of historic Route 66 and State Highways 20 and 88, northeast of Tulsa, Claremore is the seat of Rogers County, Oklahoma. A post office was established there in 1874, thirty-three years before Oklahoma became a state. The city was named for the Osage Chief Claremore, whose nearby village was destroyed in 1817.
