Elmore City is a town in Garvin County, Oklahoma. The community was first known as Rock Creek. In the mid-1880s, the settlement was renamed Banner. When the community spread southwest, a post office was opened, at which time the town was renamed Elmore. It was incorporated under that name in 1898. Renamed Banner due to address confusion with another town of a similar name in 1910, residents preferred the original name, so it was renamed Elmore City the following year.
