Situated along the banks of the Cimarron River in Woods County, Oklahoma, Freedom began as a small settlement in the late 1800s, as a result of the Cherokee Outlet land run of 1893. Its first post office was established in 1901, and the town was incorporated in 1925. Freedom is home to Alabaster Caverns Sate Park, the largest gypsum cave in the world open to the public.
