Located in Delaware County, Grove, Oklahoma was formed in 1888, when Treadwell Remsen got approval for a post office there, which at that time was part of the Delaware District, Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory. The town was incorporated sometime around 1895, although the precise date is unknown. Grove became the seat of Delaware County when Oklahoma became a state in 1907, although the county seat was moved to Jay the following year.
