Inola is about twenty-eight miles east of Tulsa, in Rogers County, Oklahoma. Before Oklahoma became a state, the area was in the northeastern part of the Creek Nation. The railroad laid tracks through the region in 1889, and the Inola post office was established in 1890. Inola is a Cherokee word for "black fox".
