Located in the southeastern corner of Craig County, Ketchum was originally established in Mayes County in 1899, a little more than a mile south-southwest of its current location, and named for James Ketchum, a Delaware Indian and Methodist minister. The original site is now submerged beneath Grand Lake O' the Cherokees, while the town relocated to be nearer the railroad in 1912, forming the new town of New Ketchum. After the original town was submerged, the "New" was dropped from its name.
