Lone Wolf was laid out on a half section of land in the northwest section of Kiowa County in 1901, when the Kiowa, Comanche and Apache Reservation was opened for settlement. Named for Kiowa Chief Lone Wolf, the community's first business was a restaurant, and its first customer was Chief Lone Wolf.
