Madill is the seat of Marshall County, which is in south-central Oklahoma, bordering the Red and Washita rivers. When the community was formed, it was part of Pickens County of the Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory. William N. Taliaferro, the town's founder, came to the area in 1886 and cultivated 600-acre farm and ranch, which became the townsite of Madill in 1900.
