Mangum is the seat of Greer County, in southwestern Oklahoma. Mangum was named for Captain A.S. Mangum, who participated in the Battle of San Jacinto in Texas, and was granted a veteran's certificate for his services which gave him the land in Greer County upon which the town was founded.
