Meeker, in Lincoln County, Oklahoma, was named for Julian and Lettitita Meeker, who deeded land to M.G. McKee, who had the town platted in 1903. A nearby town, Clifton, which had been settled in 1891, was bypassed by the railroad, which ran through the present site of Meeker, prompting Clifton residents and businesses to move there, forming a large part of the early settlement of the town.
