Perry is the seat of Noble County, Oklahoma. Before the town was established, in 1886, a train depot known as Wharton was established near there. When the federal government selected the site for a land office in 1893, it located the office one mile north of Wharton and named it for J.A. Perry, one of the men who were sent by the government to lay out the town.
