Sand Springs is in Tulsa County, Oklahoma. In 1826, a band of Cherokee resided near there. Shortly after the Civil War, the area was transferred to the Creek. About that time, Lt. Thomas Adams, a Confederate Indian veteran, settled in the area with his family. In 1908, Charles Page purchased 160 acres of land, which he later developed into a park and zoo, and formed the town to the west of his home, offering free land to those who wished to relocate. The city was incorporated in 1912.
