The Village is an incorporated community that is entirely surrounded by Oklahoma City and Nichols Hills. Until the late 1940s, farmers grew wheat and other crops in the area. Beginning in the 1950s, residential developers turned to The Village, incorporating as a means of avoiding annexation by Oklahoma or Britton, which itself was annexed by Oklahoma City. The Village was incorporated in 1950, annexing additional areas before further expansion was blocked by Oklahoma City.
