Located on the northern portion of the Tillman Terrace Aquifer in Tillman County, Oklahoma, Tipton was originally known as Farmersville, then Stinson, before being renamed in honor of John J. Tipton, conductor of the first railroad train to pass through the area. It was incorporated in 1909.
