Wakita, Oklahoma is a small incorporated town in northwestern Grant County. The town was created in 1893 when the area was opened to non-Indian settlement during the Cherokee Outlet Opening on September 16. Wakita was featured in the 1996 film, "Twister", in which Wakita was destroyed by a tornado.
