The town of Wayne, Oklahoma is located in McClain County. Beginning as a railway station, Wayne was named by railroad workers for the town by that name in Pennsylvania. Initially, the town was constructed mostly on the east side of the tracks, but after a fire destroyed its business section in 1898, the town was rebuilt on the railroad's west side. When its post office was established in 1890, the town was part of Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory.
