Situated near the Cimarron River and the Glass Mountains in southern Woods County, Waynoka was founded as a railroad stop in Indian Territory in 1887. Established in 1888, its post office was the first in the Cherokee Outlet. Farming, ranching and the energy industries have been the economic base of the community for years.
