Located in the Williamette Valley of Oregon, Albany is the seat of Linn County, although a portion of the city crosses over into Benton County. The first European settler came to the area from Iowa in 1845, and in 1847, the Monteith brothers came from New York, buying a 320-acre claim, and plotting sixty acres out for a town site, name after the capitol of New York.
