Settled in 1847 by John Diamond and Jacob Spores, the community gained fame for a beautiful stallion imported from Coburg, Germany by a local blacksmith, and its reputation led to the town itself becoming known as Coburg. Prior to that it had been known as Diamond, for one of its founders. A section of the city, including one hundred and eighty-seven structures and sites, has been recognized as a National Historic District. Coburg is in Lane County, Oregon, eight miles north of Eugene.
