The Jefferson County, Oregon town of Culver was named for Orace Gabriel Collver, who came from Coos Bay to found the town, building a grocery store, which housed the post office. In 1911, the railroad came through on the opposite side of the valley, so the town relocated nearer to the railroad. Culver was incorporated as a city in 1946.
