Founded in 1872, and legally incorporated by the Oregon Legislative Assembly in 1876, the city takes its name from William Lucas Halsey, who at that time was vice-president of Oregon & California Railroad. The small city is located approximately twenty-five miles from Eugene and Springfield, and about 20 miles from Albany and Corvallis, Oregon.
