Incorporated in 1878, Lebanon is a city in Linn County, Oregon. The city is southeast of Salem in northwestern Oregon. The area now known as Lebanon was originally named Peterson's Gap, named for Asa Peterson, one of its earliest settlers. Jeremiah Ralston came in 1847, opening the area's first store and platting the town, which he named after his birthplace of Lebanon, Tennessee. For a short time, that name was rejected by some and the town was also referred to as Pinhook.
