Situated above the forks of the Coquille River in Coos County, Oregon, Myrtle Point is home to the Coos County Logging Museum. Before white men came in the mid-1800s, the town site was a gathering place for the Coquille Indians. Ephraim Catching filed a donation claim here in 1853, and a village was platted and laid out by Henry Meyers in 1861, under the name of Meyersville. In 1879, the town was renamed Ott for a short time, then Myrtle Point, for the myrtle trees that grew there.
