Originally known as Foster, the small city of Stanfield is in Umatilla County, Oregon. The city was named for Senator Robert N. Stanfield, who purchased the area in 1903 for his sheep ranching enterprises, subdividing and creating the town in 1909. Sanfield was incorporated the following year, in 1910.
