Situated in Jackson County, at the southern end of the Rogue River Valley, Talent, Oregon was incorporated as a city in 1910. Its first known settler was Jacob Wagner, who arrived in 1852. The settlement that grew up around his homestead was named Wagner. In 1854, Fort Wagner was built on the site. In 1889, a landowner named A.P. Talent platted a townsite and named it Talent.
