The Washington County of Tigard, Oregon was settled in 1852 and incorporated in 1961. The city is situated south of Beaverton and north of Tualatin, and named for the Tigard family, headed by Wilson M. Tigard, who arrived in the area known as East Butte in 1852, building a store that housed the area's post office and meeting hall. East Butte was renamed Tigardville in 1886, and later shortened to Tigard.
