Situated along the lower part of the North Fork River Valley, just above its confluence with the Middle Fork of the Williamette River, Westfir was established as a mill town, and incorporated in 1979. It was named for the Western Lumber Company, whose principle product was Douglas fir lumber. The city is in Lane County, Oregon.
