Originally known as Boones Landing for one of its early settlers, Alphonso Boone, a grandson of Daniel Boone, the community became Wilsonville in 1880, and was incorporated as a city in 1969. The majority of the city is in Clackamas County, while al part of its northern section is in Washington County, Oregon.
