King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, is a community in Montgomery County. It was named after a local inn which took its name in honor of Frederick II, the King of Prussia. The inn, built in 1719 by Quakers, was roughly a day's travel from Philadelphia, which was a major factor of the community's importance in the 18th century. General Washington's troops stopped there on Thanksgiving 1777, just before they went to Valley Forge.
