The county seat of Berks County, Pennsylvania, is Reading, which is the city for which the now-defunct railroad was named. It was founded in 1748 by Richard and Thomas Penn, sons of William Penn, who named their hometown after a town in England. It served as a military base for the chain of forts located along the Blue Mountains and supplied Washington's troops with cannons, guns, and ammo during the Revolution.
