Cranston, Rhode Island was established in 1754 and incorporated as a city in 1910. Located in Providence County, Cranston was originally known as Pawtuxet, and was created from a portion of Providence north of the Pawtuxet River. After ceding much of its territory to Providence and other neighboring towns, Cranston became a city in 1910.
