Named for Stephen Hopkins, a signer of the Declaration of Independence from Rhode Island, Hopkinton is a town in Washington County, Rhode Island. The town was incorporated in 1767, and once featured several villages. Today, only the villages of Ashaway, Bradford, Hope Valley and Rockville are recognized with a post office. The town hall is situated in what is often referred to as Hopkinton City, once a major stagecoach hub.
