Originally part of Westerly, Richmond was incorporated as a separate town in 1747, bounded on the north by Exeter, on the west by the Wood River, the east by Exeter and South Kingston, and on the south by the Pawcatuck River. The villages of Alton, Arcadia, Carolina, Hope Valley, Kenyon, Shannock, Usquepaug, Woodville and Wyoming are located all or in part within the town of Richmond, Rhode Island.
