Located just south of the North Carolina line, Lancaster is in the north-central part of South Carolina. Situated near the center of Lancaster County, the city serves as the county seat. When it was settled in the 1700s by pioneers from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the town was known as Red Rose City, which today is used as a nickname for the city. The city was the boyhood home of Andrew Jackson, the 7th president of the United States, and the site of the last witch trials in the country.
